Cape Town is always a good idea…
We decided that for my birthday ( 4th of May) we will take the boys to Cape Town to see my family, and our plan was to do as many touristy things as possible- I had to show the boys Cape Town and what it’s got to offer- besides , they are just the perfect age to really enjoy it. We were based in milnerton- it’s about 10 min drive from the city, we stayed in my parents place on the golf course on the beach.
We did the usual, boulders beach to see the penguins- and to our luck, we got there only to find out it’s mating season, every mama penguin had her little baby penguin next to her, the boys absolutely loved it, and Aron kept asking if he can ‘hug’ the baby, he is just like his mama !! We had the most incredible lunch at The Brass bell in kalk bay- this use to be my old “stomping ground” won’t tell me kids how I use to party there… uh ugh…. anyway, the food was great! The kids had an absolute blast running around and feeding the seagulls, and watching the seals and ships, kalk bay is such a ‘real Cape Town ‘ to me, the culture is so rich there, I’ve forgotten how much I love it, to be quite honest, I could easily move back there with the kids- just not too sure if they can handle the winter ha ha, real durbanites these boys.
We had to take them to the Two oceans aquarium, I use to take my little nephew all the time, still one of my most favorite aquariums in the world, the boys got to touch some sea anemones, and was in absolute awe!! We tried to take them up table mountain, but we were waiting for the cloud to pass over, but it kept hanging all weekend, and we never got to take them. We will just have to wait till December when we go back to my family, then I can show the boys a real ‘summer’ in the city.
I love the waterfront, gosh I think I miss it the most out of everything back home, the restaurants, the vibe, shopping, just everything- it’s all there in one place, the boys also loved it there, the outside play gym is great for keeping the kids entertained while you sit and sip some wine….bliss!!
On saturday, we spent the day in big bay- blouberg side, we had sushi and some wine of course, while the boys rode their bikes up and down the promenade, it was a perfect evening, sunny and beautiful outside, a gorgeous ocean and the most incredible sunset ( Cape Town knows how to do a sunset) Best end to the best birthday and mother’s day with my boys.
